PHI MU

Alpha Eta

Letter from the President

Hi Everyone,

My name is Virginia Dirks and I have the honor of serving as the 2023 chapter president of Phi Mu Alpha Eta. While our sisterhood could never be summed up in a single paragraph, or even a website, it is my hope that we are able to give you a glimpse into what makes our chapter so unique. Phi Mu is a place where every girl is not only free to be her most authentic self, but celebrated, supported, and loved by her sisters for exactly who she is. There isn’t one stereotypical girl in Phi Mu. The 350+ women in our chapter are smart, dynamic, talented, and genuine. They are my best friends, biggest supporters, and role models. They are my family. They are what makes Phi Mu my home away from home. They are the first to congratulate me on the good days and never fail to lift me up on the bad days. They continuously push me to be better, to go out of my comfort zone and become the best student, leader, friend –  the best version of myself I can be. I only hope that I am able to pour as much of myself into this chapter as they have poured into me. I am immensely grateful for all of the opportunities Phi Mu has given me, and I will always cherish my Phi Mu experience.

Phi Mu has given more to me than I ever thought possible. Before college, I hoped and prayed to find friendships that would inspire and challenge me to be a better and more confident individual. When I chose Phi Mu as a freshman I did so knowing that dream would come true. What I didn’t know was just how much Phi Mu would change the course of my life forever. I am a more confident, inspired, and changed person because of the women I have met in Phi Mu. What I have experienced these past four years has been nothing short of incredible, and I have no doubt in my mind that the impact these women have made on my life will carry me through the future.

There are so many countless reasons why I went Phi Mu. If I had to choose one though, I think it would have to be because when I went through rush at Phi Mu, I felt like I was talking to girls that genuinely cared for me, even though they had only had one conversation with me! As I had that gut feeling of care and love exuding from active members during rush, I began to see, through my experiences in Phi Mu, that this was not just a feeling, this was the truth. The people I have chosen to surround myself with by choosing Phi Mu are girls that genuinely want the best for me, care for me, and will stick by my side when life gets rough. My first year of college had so many ups and down, but the one constant was the family I found in Phi Mu. Knowing that you are cared for, deeply loved, and valued by so many people makes the hard times bearable and the good times enriching. The girls in Phi Mu have changed my life, quite literally in so many ways, and I am so glad I made the best decision in joining this sisterhood one year ago. LIOB.

Choosing Phi Mu has truly been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. As I enter my senior year, I can’t imagine my years at LSU without this place. Phi Mu has been my safe place, a second home, and the most supportive, uplifting community of women I’ve ever known. Phi Mu has given me the best friends I’ve ever known, friendships that I know will continue through all stages of life. Not only has Phi Mu given me friendships and memories to last a lifetime, being a part of this chapter has allowed me to grow in ways I never imagined. This chapter has encouraged me, supported me, and given me the opportunity to lead and serve others in ways I didn’t know I was capable of. I am forever grateful to call Phi Mu my home.

Coming from out of state can be intimidating, but joining a sorority can definitely help ease the transition. Everything came together for me when I met a Phi Mu from out of state. Her confidence was liberating and the moment I met her I could tell an everlasting friendship would form.  Not only was she welcoming but the chapter as a whole was there with open arms from day one. This chapter is genuine and our sisterhood is rare. Members of all ages and pledge classes are friends. Over the past two years, I have seen my fellow chapter members and best friends grow into dedicated hardworking women ready to conquer their dreams. I will forever cherish the wonderful memories I have made with them to date and will continue to make over the next two years. And, I am thrilled to meet my new best friends this August.
